The Montagu Ecology Club was founded 2000 with the following aims and objectives:
Aims and Intent
- To strive for the conservation of the natural and built environment of Montagu
- To create environmental awareness and undertake environmental education
- among the people of the Montagu Magisterial District.
- To network and collaborate with other organizations/groups of similar aims.
- To ensure that environmental projects / interventions in Montagu are environmentally and socially sustainable
Specific Objectives
- The dissemination of information about the environment and ecology related matters among the inhabitants, the local authorities and tourists in the Montagu.
- The promotion of responsible eco-tourism in Montagu and its environs.
- The planting of indigenous plants and the eradication of invasive alien species via collaboration through the hacking group and collaboration of the municipality and other groups.
- Playing a general monitoring role in the preservation of the local environment in accordance with environmental legislation.
- Engaging with the Langeberg municipality and Cape Nature on environmental
- issues.
- Organizing regular meetings and excursions.
- Obtaining assistance from experts in various fields.
