Jonkmanshof – 20 Bath Street

The historic interior features contemporary South African art mixed with 18th century Cape furniture.

Will be closed during 21 July – 12 August 2024

The entrance hall features a collection of old turtle shells, gleaming wooden floors and shutters to keep the interior cool. The library has midnight-blue walls off-set by art and antiques, curated ceramics and a wonderful collection of books and magazines.

The lounge is painted oxblood red and furnished with comfortable sofas, antique chairs, a wall-mounted Cape-Dutch cupboard and an antique green marble fireplace. Firewood is provided in winter.
The farmhouse-style kitchen has a beautiful herringbone brick floor, marble-and-wrought-iron work surfaces. A glass conservatory, filled with indigenous succulents, links the kitchen and dining area with the walled vegetable and potted citrus gardens. The raised swimming pool resembles a farm dam and overlooks the pretty chicken coop.

Both bedrooms have king-size four-poster beds dressed in pure Italian linen and goose down and can be set up as twin beds. Classic Karoo shutters and ceiling fans cool the bedrooms in summer and in winter there’s cashmere and heating.

The en-suite bathrooms have deep cast-iron bateau tubs, hotel-size guest amenities, hair dryers, cotton bath towels and underfloor heating.
