Welcome back Marriette!

Welcome back Marriette!

04 January 2012

Marriette Barnes - a familiar face in the Tourism Office for many years, is back in the saddle!

Marriette started working at the Montagu Tourism Office as far back as 1985 (the office had been open for a year at that stage). She says she soon realised that the Tourism Office was the most important office in town being the "window" of Montagu and she soon discovered that she needed to know everything!

When the Municipality amalgamated in 2000, the decision was made by council to have only one municipal tourism official for the area and Marriette was lucky to land the position. She eventually moved to the Head Office in Ashton. The municipality split the funding for the tourism offices between Montagu/Ashton and Robertson/Bonnievale/McGregor and is keen that the 5 towns need to jointly market the Langeberg as a region, not just each individual town.

Marriette officially retired from her Municipal job at the end of December, but with not even the luxury of one month to sit back and relax., as she was grabbed by the MATA Committee at a very timeous moment to step in and take over from Ronel Preston who, after a year and a half of assisting with the management of the tourism office, felt it was time to pursue personal business interests again.

Marriette says she is absolutely thrilled to be back at the Montagu Tourism Office and look forward to meeting the many new members and seeing all the "ou bekendes" again!
