Dave Pepler (in the deepest Congo at the moment), Dr Heinz Mödler on his latest publication “En Daar was Dagga – Van Gister tot Vandag”, Dr Renée Rust on Klein Karoo Rock Art, Dr Janette Deacon on the Rock Art in Lover’s Walk, Liana Jansen on fynbos perfumes, Corné Claassen of Vrolijkheid Nature Reserve on Indigenous Succulent Anti-poaching Programs, Andries du Toit on Sceletium (Kougoed), Craig Fourie on Medicinal Mushrooms and ecologist Rupert Koopman on Essential Oils and Ecological Conservation.

Free attendance to a whole group of exhibitors inside the Mission Church from 12:00 on Friday and short informal talks on the hour on Saturday – Robert Yule on Traditional Healing, The Magic of Mushrooms by Ras Baker, Jean Jeffery on Medicinal Herbs, Natie Ferreira on Cannabis and Indigenous Khoisan Herb Knowledge by Hessekwa Hoofman Takelo, Hoofvrou Kooper and elders. Earthwise Products, Cape Fynbos Teas, Naledi Books, Fijn Botanicals, Organic Gwen, Lavender & Rosemary, Montagu Bookshop, Aether Apothecary, Aloe Ferox and Grow Folk will also be there. In the Museum Herb Shop our medicinal teas, creams and Herb Fest related gifts and T-shirts will be on sale.
At Joubert House there will be tours on the hour of this historic house by President Paul Kruger and General Joubert with their wives Gezina and Hendrina. The following demonstrations will take place on Saturday and Sunday: Terry Sadie on the benefits of Growing your own Superfoods, Cooking with Herbs presented by Dr Deoni van Rensburg, a Cannabis Workshop by Brenda Marx and a Potpourri Demonstration by Heather Koutny.
The Joubert House Nursery will be open and there will be a Tea Garden on Sunday in aid of funds for the upkeep of the garden and nursery.
Other events: The popular Guided Donkerkloof Hike, and the Lover’s Walk Rock Art Clean-up by Dr Janette Deacon and assistants.
At the Montagu Nature Garden there will be a Montagu Art Association exhibition “Inspired by Botanicals” on Saturday and Sunday, a yoga session by Karen Yoga on Sunday and a guided walk through the Nature Garden at 9.30 am on Sunday.
At De Bos – a family concert and picnic on Saturday afternoon from 16:00 to 20:00.
At Kogman & Keisie a Fynbos Wreath Workshop by Nicky Mitchell (4 hours) on Saturday and an Ecological Mountain Walk by Dave Pepler on Sunday.
We’ve had an unprecedented response from the restaurants, art galleries and shops in Montagu, so keep your eyes open for the Herb Stop signs for the Festival Fringe around town. Restaurants will be serving herb-oriented fare from indigenous herb festival menus to herb infused ice creams, pastries, pizzas, cupcakes, sausages, charcuterie, herb infused drinks, beers and spirits. Flying Feet will have bicycle tours and a treasure hunt or you can visit the Fresh Community.
There will be an exciting Art Competition for primary and high school learners.
