Kingna Distillery

The story of Kingna Potstill brandy begins with the conversion of an abandoned pack store into a distillery in 2005.
Our vision was to convert the pack store into an authentic distillery specialising in producing top class postill brandies. With the help of architects, engineers… and designers the distillery was built and once the necessary legislative requirements were finalised, we started distilling in 2007.

Even though we started distilling in June 2007 the South African brandy legislation rules that we have to wait for at least 3 years and a day before we can legally bottle our product. This comprehensive legislation and our authentic process attest to our brandy being of the highest quality. Our first pot still brandy was therefore produced in June 2010. The fact that in the first year of production we were awarded a bronze VERITAS was an assessment of our dedication.

The distillery is in the Klein Karoo, South Africa and is located 18 km outside Montagu on the Talana Road just off the R62. Montagu is a rural town were commerce depends predominantly on the surrounding farmers that produce mainly grapes and fruit.

Montagu is on the R62 and is only two hours from Cape Town and is popular for persons to escape the city wanting to get away from it all. For years this tourist destination has become increasingly popular due to the hot mineral springs and other tourist destinations that have developed. The majestic mountain scenery and the tranquillity that Montagu gives have made the town an even more popular place for visitors.

Route Description

Take the Talana/Ouberg turn-off 1km outside of Montagu on the R62 towards Barrydale on your left. The road is a tar road but eventually becomes a dirt road. Continue on this road for 16km and the Distillery and Venue will be on the right hand side.
