It’s not the usual day and time for our concert, but…
On Sunday morning, 5 December, Montagu Music Society will present a recital of flute and piano music performed by flautist Louisa Theart and pianist Sandra Kettle-Loubser.

They will perform a program that includes works by JS Bach, Mozart Elgar, Griffes, Debussy and more. The program features works for solo flute as well as duos with piano, allowing the musicians to explore many varying sound worlds.

Louisa Theart holds an MMUS from the Royal College of Music (2012), which she obtained after completing her BMus Hons at UCT (2010). Louisa regularly performs with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra (with whom she toured to Dubai and Hong Kong in 2017) and has also played as guest principal with the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra and the Free State Symphony Orchestra. She has performed at many of South Africa’s Music and Arts Festivals as member of several chamber music groups. As a keen performer of new music, she has commissioned a number of notable new works from South African composers through the SAMRO Foundation. She is regularly booked to record soundtracks for films and documentaries in Cape Town’s budding film scoring industry.

Sandra Kettle-Loubser studied piano with Sona Whiteman and Laura Searle in Cape Town and Bernd Goetzke in Hannover, Germany. She has a Master’s Degree in Piano Performance from the College of Music, UCT, and a Concert Diploma and Chamber Music Diploma from the Hochschule fur Musik und Theatre in Hannover, Germany. Sandra has won many prizes, and given solo and chamber music recitals here and in Germany. She has also been invited to sit on the judging panels of various competitions and eisteddfods. Sandra was also one of the official accompanists for the 2014 1st International Flute/Clarinet Competition in Pretoria. She is currently the head of piano and the official accompanist at the Beau Soleil Music Centre.

The event will commence at 11h00 on Sunday 5 December (yes, it’s not the usual day of the week or the usual time for our concerts; but hey – if you can’t mix things up a little every now and again, then what’s the use?). We invite our many loyal audience members to enjoy a glass of wine or fruit juice from 10h30. This performance at the Old Mission Church in Long Street is the perfect way to get you in the mood for your Sunday lunch, whether that’s braaivleis or ‘gekookte kos’ – so do come and support local music talent of the highest calibre.

Tickets, at R100 for adults and R20 for school learners, are available at The Montagu Bookshop (023 614 2772). While you get your tickets at these still unchanged and very reasonable prices, have a look at all the wonderful new and second-hand books there.

We will also sell tickets at the venue door from 10h30 on the day.
The Society already has commitments for concerts in February, March and April, and we’re working on arrangements for another sundowner concert in the Nature Garden towards the end of January.

So watch this space; or if you cannot wait for the monthly news to arrive, send us an e-mail at monmussociety@gmail.com, and we will add you to our distribution list.
