Colourful Montagu!

Makiti, rain and showbiz …
On the weekend of 26-28 September the party spirit hit Montagu… and everyone took part in the “jollification”- that we call the Montagu Makiti!!!

Montagu's 3rd annual Makiti Festival kicked off with a bang on Friday night with the local stage production, MimeTime and what a show it was! With local “famous” stars, such as Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, Frankenfurter and Mr and Mr and Mr Bond – James Bond!!
Mime Time raised just over R18,000 for several well deserving charities.

The highlights of an amazing weekend was colourful and full of positive energy:

- A happy street parade proceeding even in a down pour
-WCMBA under the guidance of CEO Fadiel Gasant bringing the band to Montagu and still marching with RAD Foundation youth and inspiring them in the Heita Hello Heritage Carnival! Huge thanks to all who marched despite the weather.
-The Museum Gallery saw a unique and breathtaking performance by the Zolani Youth choir on Saturday, followed by a very successful Boot Sale on Sunday.
-Sunday offered some relief from the rain, allowing the potjiekos competition to kick off at Cabrieres. Fourteen teams went head-to-head in a close battle and after much deliberation the judges announced the Mimosa Lodge team the 2014 winners with their delicious guinea fowl potjie!

Plans are already afoot for makiti 2015! Watch this space ...
