And the Potjie Winners are..

The "local is lekker" girl, Mareletta van Zyl and her partner in crime, Anne-Marie Coetzee from the Montagu-Ashton Tourism Office, kicked some smoke into the eyes of many of our regular macho, potjie champs this year! They had to endure more than one "guffaw" throughout the day - including: "Do you girls even know how to make a proper fire.... much less a decent pot !?"
Well, these boeregirls certainly showed them that they are more than accomplished at both fire AND pot!

"We decided on a Waterblommetjie pot ", said Mareletta. "It took a bit of searching for the main ingredients since I discovered that the dams are pretty empty as far as these delicious ingredient goes at this time of year ... After a few phone calls and putting the local 'network' to work – I luckily found perfect, luscious waterblommetjies promising gooood flavours ....!"

Mareletta was even prepared to share her winning recipe with us:

* Local Waterblommetjie
* Local Lamb
* Fresh Surings from my own garden
* Local Granny Smith apples
* Local Lemons (freshly picked)
* Homegrown Potatoes and onions – (for an even better taste, add at least two red onions with the white ones) – and a Secret, Secret ingredient to bring out the flavour of the onions – two star aniseed)
A whole litre of Uitvlucht white wine to get them all talking and having a party right there in the pot...

The final little secret of a TRUE Montagu Waterblommetjie pot – add some Montagu Muskadel about half an hour before serving............
(and serve with more Muskadel on the side - OUT of the pot!)

Well done ladies!
