As you drive the less than 6km gravel road it feels as if you are leaving everything behind and mentally preparing for taking deep breaths and indulging in real farm life, away from the city- rush, latent noise, traffic and all the daily stresses.

As the mountains enfold their protective arms you see your destination in the cradle of their arms.

Middelvoetpad is a lifestyle Dorper sheep and Boerbok farm, the perfect Getaway, live at a slow pace and authentic Farm experiences in the Little Karoo.

The space
Conveniently located 16 km’s outside Montagu on the R318 in the Keisie valley, (10 km’s tar road and 6 km’s a well maintained gravel road ), thus close enough for a quick outing to the picturesque town of Montagu. Ashton, Robertson, Barrydale, Swellendam and Worcester within 100 km’s, with Cape Agulhas the closest beach.
Not that you would want to go far from this haven of real life, nature in its rawest form and hospitality that would make you want to come back for more.

This gracious old Cape-Dutch house dating from the 1800’s offers two capacious double bedrooms with a shared bathroom exclusively for guests. Experience the natural climate control of the building with walls 600mm in thickness.

Guests will have access to the entire private entertainment patio, a relaxing retreat, which included a fully equipped kitchen, coffee and tea station with home made rusks and something sweet, dining table, television and buil- in braai.
Wake up when the cock crows and frolicking of the birds in the White Karee and the Wild Plum trees and the smell of warm baked bread!

Guest access
Tortoises roam the farm freely and if you are lucky you might even catch a glimpse of a mongoose, hare, rock hyrax, duiker, steenbok, klipspringer, leopard, caracal, jackal and baboons. Abundant birdlife on the farm and the call of the beautiful Fish Eagle at the Pietersfontein Dam can be heard.

Explore the great scenery, either by hiking, mountain bike, quad bike or drone (bring your own). The farm roads are part of the annual BMW GS bike challenge route and will be your perfect personal challenge while getting acquainted with Mother Nature again.

Relax at the pool, with breathtaking views of the majestic mountains, where the large African birds of prey namely the Black Eagles are nesting and often seen hunting for rock hyrax. Alternatively on the hot summer days the rock pool in the mountain gorge will be a pleasant adventure.
Guests may order a picnic basket in advance, to be enjoyed at the rock pool on a afternoon. Delight in a sun-downer on the front patio while the sheep and goats are grazing and feeding their lambs, before leaving for their overnight camps.

The farm offers the following activities:
• Involvement in the sheep and boerbok farming activities.
• Explanation of solar and irrigation systems to reduce the carbon footprint.
• Compound and Crossbow shooting demonstration, equipment setup and shooting techniques.
• Bird watching.
• Rock climbing.
The lifestyle on the farm as environmentally friendly as possible which include the following green initiatives:
• Water is piped from a fountain deep in the mountains, where gravity flow ensure a constant supply, of crystal clear fresh water 24 hours per day. ‘Beurtwater” is also shared by the farmers in the Pietersfontein area.
• An impressive Solar system to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply for household purposes and irrigation.
• Guests will be allowed to buy and plant any indigenous tree in a specific area on the farm.
• Cultivation of herbs and seasonal vegetables which guests are encouraged to pick themselves and use.
• Biodegradable guest amenities supplied.
